We all know cats are pretty extraordinary animals, but some are recognized by Guinness for their extra-extraordinary qualities!

  • The record for the longest whisker on a cat (7.5 inches)  belongs to Missi (pictured above), a Maine coon who lives with her owner, Kaija Kyllönen. The whiskers were measured in Iisvesi, Finland on December 22, 2005.
  • The world record for the cat with most toes belongs to Jake, who has 28 toes, with seven on each paw. The record was verified on September 24, 2002. Jake lives in Bonfield, Ontario, Canada with his owners, Michelle and Paul Contant.

  • The oldest cat, Creme Puff, was born on August 3, 1967 and lived until  August 6, 2005 – that’s 38 years! Creme Puff lived with her owner, Jake Perry, in Austin, Texas.  In recent years there have been some challenges to this record; however, Creme Puff still holds the official Guinness record.

  • The tallest domestic cat is Scarlett’s Magic who is 18.07 inches tall. She is owned by Kimberly and Lee Draper and was measured on August 20, 2010.

  • The longest domestic cat is Mymains Stewart Gilligan (48.5 inches). He is owned by Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness  and was measured on August 28, 2010.

  • And as most of us are familiar with Smokey the cat, who is currently awaiting word from Guinness that he does indeed have the world’s loudest purr.

Who says cats aren’t pawesome?!
